Gratuity Calculator Online

A gratuity calculator online gives you a quick estimate of the lump sum an employer may pay when you leave after long service. You enter your last drawn wages and years of service, and the tool applies the standard formula. The number is illustrative, so always confirm it with your employer.

What gratuity is

Gratuity is a benefit that an employer pays as thanks for long service. It is separate from provident fund, which is built from monthly contributions, and from notice-period pay or leave encashment. Many private-sector employees become eligible after a minimum period of continuous service, although exceptions can apply.

Inputs for the calculator

  • Last drawn monthly basic pay, plus dearness allowance if any.
  • Years and months of continuous service.
  • Whether your employer is covered under the Payment of Gratuity Act or follows its own policy.
  • Any maximum amount you want to apply as an assumption.

How the estimate is made

For covered employees, the usual approach multiplies last drawn wages by 15, divides by 26, and multiplies by completed years of service. The online tool shows each of these steps so you can follow the arithmetic instead of seeing only a final amount.

Gratuity calculator online: worked example

This example is illustrative. Suppose last drawn basic plus DA is Rs 60,000 and service is 10 years.

  • Daily rate: 60,000 divided by 26 is about Rs 2,308.
  • Fifteen days of wages: about Rs 34,615.
  • Ten years: about Rs 3,46,154.

If your wages were Rs 30,000, the figure would be half. If your service were 9 years 4 months, the years counted could be lower under the rounding rule, which is why the exact joining and leaving dates matter.

What changes the result

  • A higher basic pay share in your salary structure raises the wage figure.
  • A later last working day can push you into the next rounded year.
  • An employer policy more generous than the standard formula can increase the payout.
  • Breaks in service may affect eligibility, so check how your employer treats them.

Common mistakes

  • Don't use CTC or gross salary as wages.
  • Don't assume you will receive the money on your last day; it often comes with the full and final settlement.
  • Don't mix up gratuity and PF; they are claimed and paid differently.
  • Do keep your appointment letter and payslips for reference.
  • Do check tax treatment with the Income Tax Department or a qualified professional.

Planning your exit

Before you resign, ask HR for your service record and a written estimate. Compare the date of your last working day with any rounding benefit, and think about how the timing fits with your joining date at the next company.

Next step

While you plan your move, build a primary resume in CVTara and use the application tracker to follow each interview and offer.
